The Origin of the World

A photo exhibition that i did in 2001 in Linz / Austria.

Inspired by a painting by the French painter Gustave Courbet

who painted L’Origine du monde in 1866.

It was not well received, to say the least!

The press practically crucified him and his career was over.

I was curious to see how this would go in 2001

in very conservative and catholic Austria.

It was super difficult to find a gallery

that would be courageous enough

to show the work

But i did find one gallery

and press was rather

stunned 🙄 

But women loved it.

yep!

Unfortunately i lost most of the original files,

so here are just a few bad quality reproductions.

I hope you understand the point that i wanted to make back then.
And still want to make now.
